A stocky, large-flowered elwesii with broad leaves and strong growth. The height is only 15 cm, but the spherical flowers are large (30-35 mm) and show a beautiful colour contrast. The inner petals are dark green. The outer ones have a broad pointed top with a bright green colour, changing into stripes towards the base. The half-open flower looks a bit like the folded wings of some butterflies, hence the name. Flowering period mid-February.
